Clay Shirky speaks at DigitalNow 2009

Clay Shirky - author of Here Comes Everybody: The Power of Organizing without Organizations delivered the opening keynote at DigitalNow 2009 this morning.

Clay said that we are in the midst of a media revolution that is unrivaled in our lifetime. He said that we will not fully realize the application of social networking and what we call Web 2.0 until the mainstream becomes bored with the tools and begins to take them for granted. When asked what he thought the next biggest technological development would be, Clay answered, "Email." He said that we are now bored with email and have moved into a phase of critical usage and creative application.

Through use of engaging stories - such as the group of young people in Belarus who caused a political uprising by meeting in a town square and eating ice cream - Clay explores how technology is enabling some radical new modes of engagement.
